Does God Just Tolerate Me?

God is not a god who tolerates you. He is a God who loves you. He is a God who desires you.
— Paul Washer

The Creator of the Universe made you for a joy-filled and all-satisfying relationship with Himself. You were made to enjoy Him and to enjoy the deep happiness that comes from being loved with His love that is infinite. He does not “tolerate” you—He loves you!

The moment we think God is just “tolerating” us, we are no longer thinking about the True God that actually exists, the God who hates evil, loves what is good, rejoices in the redemption of sinful people and sent His own Son to accomplish that redemption on the Cross. Rather, when we believe God tolerates us, we are thinking about some god of our own invention, not the God of the Bible.

GO TO THE WORD

The Word is clear that God loves you and desires a relationship with you. Sin separates us from the Lord, but in Christ, He has made a way for you to be reconciled to Himself. Whatever has you feeling like He just tolerates you, let that lie be defeated by the truth found in His glorious Word. In Christ, we can enjoy God and His love for us forever. Here are a few verses that demonstrate His beautiful love and compassion towards you:

“Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity And passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His possession? He does not retain His anger forever, Because He delights in unchanging love.” Micah 7:18
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16
"For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.” John 6:40
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
“He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?” Romans 8:32
“Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.’” John 6:35

The moment you start to think God is just tolerating you, remind yourself of these truths from His Word.
